Hi,
How is Alternative rock defined from "mainstream" rock? I have never been quite sure how Alternative is defined as a rock genre from "mainstream" as they both have about four members per band and have a front man, use the same equipment and often have the same beat, tempo and timbre as "regular" rock as well as use major labels.
The one thing that I know that is different is that Alternative rock earlier on came from independent music scene but other than that I don't know what truly defines it.
If you know, how is Alternative best defined or can it be truly defined today?
