If we go back to the previous sentence of buying an ice cream then the object is an ice cream because the ice cream received the purchase. This may seem a bit abstract but the rules are the same. Perform this action to buy ice cream and receive this action. So the subject is the object. Also in these sentences the ice cream and the boy are what are called direct objects because they receive the action directly. In French just like in English we can replace the direct object with a direct object pronoun. So the sentence above becomes Jane bought it. In English the direct object pronoun occupies in the sentence whereas in French it comes before the verb èàé I took Sarah to school becomes èàé I sent her to school In a negative sentence the direct pronoun comes after and before the verb. Note that the order of pronouns in French is important. èàéI won't take her to school You'll also notice that there's no separate word for it. This is because in French you use or depending on whether you are replacing a masculine or feminine noun.
