The world is changing. Obvious enough statement. Humanity has moved from small bands of close knit individuals to vast sprawls of strangers, enslaved to mindless consumption and selfishness. The rise of cities has given us some amazing things, like science and technology, but now there is a call for something more. In answer to that call, we are building an event/festival around Gainsville, Tx.
The question is, what shape should this event take? Again, we are not looking to build what has been built before. In the past, one man, one book, one group, or one state, etc, claimed to be the sole proprietor of the truth and all others were dangerous lies. Those days are dying. Here, we know each person carries the truth within themselves. So instead of just building this event as I would like it to be, I want to open it up so that together we can build something better. There will be disagreements, arguments, hurt feelings, and rage quits, but if we survive that, we will have created something that might well lead to a better future.
What I am asking for, specifically, is if you were to spend 2-5(or more?) day camping on some hilly cattle country, what would you like to be doing that would further your goals towards the creation of a better, more united world?
For example, if feel like much of what ails the world is the disconnect we feel from each other and nature. I feel like a move towards smaller, intentional communities that live in relative harmony with nature. At the same time, I believe that the concepts of capitalism and personal ownership are poisonous, leading to competition when their should be cooperation and sociopathy when their should be brotherhood. As such I would want my community to be communist, with shared ownership of land, resources, and problems. I hold to issue with the idea of money since it's only a medium of exchange and I feel like what we have gained from the modern world is to amazing to turn our backs on so I want my village to be relatively high tech while still being sustainable.
As such I would like this festival to feature skills trade workshop, where people teach each other important sustainable living concepts like composting, aquaponics, building earthships, green energy, etc, as well as things that are more community based like interpersonal communication, holding public forums, the art of storytelling, conflict resolution.
How does you idea of ideal future differ from mine? And how could this event help you make this happen?
